Minor Entrepreneurship for Society, the aftermath

On January 27th 2016, the students from the minor Entrepreneurship for Society presented their start-ups in Theater aan ‘t Spui, The Hague. This entrepreneurship education program is initiated by the Centre for Innovation and teaches students how to turn their ideas into reality.

Its ‘learning by doing’ and ‘experiments based learning’ mantras were taken up for a test, when 40 students pitched their 12 business models to a crowd and jury. Within this program it was not only key to create a business model, the challenge was to look at the global challenges of today. Think of sustainable production of consumer goods, to the reduction of waste. Think of connecting and creating social cohesion in public places.

This entrepreneurial program was experimentation with real life problems. How we in the Hague (and the rest of the world) call that: Impact Entrepreneurs, where the business model is just as important as the impact it’s aimed to make. Because an idea is only as good as its execution, entrepreneurship is the way succeed.

Entrepreneurship is about creating constant feedback loops, experimentation and ups and downs.

The leaders of tomorrow

These leaders of tomorrow have an entrepreneurial mindset, finding innovative solutions and creative ideas is a key aspect in an ever changing career landscape. Not only can they use these skills starting a company themselves, even if they work at companies they can leverage these (super) powers.

Starting and pitch an idea, product and/or business model is freeing and inspirational for your mind.

The process of trying, failing and experimenting is called innovation, that is why some of them (like Upwear and Plastic Fantastic) also joined the The Hague innovators challenge and were nominated to receive a platform where they could promote their ventures. Evidently, not everyone could win, but that’s part of the deal.
